The vision of Gherardo Felloni, between heritage and contemporaneity

An immense heritage – the one left by the French stylist – which for some years has been in the hands of the Italian designer Gherardo Felloni, creative director of Roger Vivier since 2018. Opera singer, cinema enthusiast, nature lover and collector of antique jewels, Gherardo Felloni knows well the value of the inheritance received into custody. “Archives play an extremely relevant role in my creative process,” he explains. “When I was appointed creative director, I was very excited to finally be able to dive into the archives and study them up close. Monsieur Vivier’s creations were ahead of their time. In the 1940s, shoes all looked the same: round toe and cylindrical heel. Monsieur Vivier had clearly understood the need for a change in fashion and accessories: he created new shapes, the tapered toe, the square toe, the stiletto heel. He brought the color and this too, together with the aforementioned innovations, determined the differentiation and success of the Maison Vivier”. Felloni now has the task of celebrating, enhancing and updating this great wealth. “As a creative director, I need to find the balance between my personal inspirations, such an important legacy and global trends.”
