Henri Stambouli, former OM player and coach, who was also coach of several African national teams, died at the age of 62, the National Union of Coaches and Technical Executives of French Football announced on Friday, November 17 ( Unecatef). “Farewell Henri Stambouli. Several French clubs, including OGC Nice, Montpellier and Olympique de Marseille (OM) also published messages of condolences and tributes on X. Goalkeeper, Henri Stambouli wore the AS Monaco jersey for a long time (1979-1986) before joining OM. He finished his playing career there and began a long coaching career.

At OM, he managed the reserve, was assistant to the head coach and managed the A team from 1994 to 1995. He was Raymond Goethals’ assistant during the Champions League final won by the ‘OM in 1993. He also managed the training center of the Marseille club from 2010 to 2013, then that of Montpellier for five years.

He was also the coach of several African teams (Mali, Togo, Guinea) and coached several clubs in France (Istres, Sedan) and abroad (Sion, Las Palmas, African Club, Raja Casablanca, etc.). His son, Benjamin, a professional footballer, currently plays for Adana Demirspor in Turkey, after having worn the jerseys of Montpellier, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain.
