Like every Saturday, rallies “in solidarity with the Palestinian people” are organized in France this November 18. In Paris, the police headquarters did not prohibit the holding of the demonstration, organized at the call of several unions (CGT, FSU, FO and Solidaires). “The police chief, however, maintains his firm posture adopted since the start of the conflict” between Israel and Hamas, the police headquarters said in a statement Thursday, recalling that it will not “tolerate any excess.”

The demonstration is planned between 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., from Place de la République to Place de la Nation. The organizers call for an “immediate ceasefire and lifting of the blockade” on the Gaza Strip, “an end to the bombings and forced displacement of the population”, “the protection of the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank » or even “the release of hostages and prisoners”.

The Socialist Party (PS), the Communist Party (PCF) and EELV announced with several small left-wing parties in a joint press release that they were joining this gathering, “for peace and justice”. “Let us march to continue to demand the release of the hostages, an immediate ceasefire and a two-state solution,” wrote the PS on (formerly Twitter). La France insoumise (LFI) did not associate itself with this press release but announced on his presence at the demonstration.

Two days earlier, demonstrations in support of Palestine took place in front of two Parisian high schools, Racine and Lamartine. Several students stood on trash cans in front of the entrance to their school, some chanting “Free Palestine” slogans into a megaphone. The blockage was partial and high school students were able to access the classrooms.

Gatherings all over France

In addition to this march in Paris, dozens of other gatherings are being organized throughout France this Saturday, such as in Saint-Brieuc, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Lille and Brest. The CGT identified them on his website. Last Sunday, more than 182,000 people marched against anti-Semitism, at the call of the President of the Senate and the President of the National Assembly. There were 105,000 of them in Paris.

Since Hamas carried out an attack of unprecedented scale on Israeli soil on October 7, killing 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping around 240 people with other armed groups, according to Israeli authorities, the bombings reprisals on the Gaza Strip are incessant. According to the Hamas Ministry of Health, at least 12,000 Palestinian civilians were killed, including 5,000 children.
