The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, urges citizens to take shelter in a safe place and follow up on the actions of official emergency agencies.

Raquel made the call through the social network X (former Twitter).

“Given the intense rains and floods recorded by the tropical disturbance that is affecting our country, I urge citizens to take shelter in a safe place, as well as follow up on the actions of emergency agencies. “Everyone’s safety is a priority,” he expressed.

This exhortation comes after seeing the damage caused by the heavy rains that are affecting the national territory.

It is recalled that the Emergency Operations Center (COE) raised the provinces on red alert to 13 due to the heavy downpours, thunderstorms and gusts of wind that continue to occur in the country since the early hours of the day.

On red alert are: San Cristóbal, Peravia, San José de Ocoa, Azua, Barahona, Pedernales, Independencia, Bahoruco, San Juan, Elías Piña and Sánchez Ramírez, Santo Domingo and Sánchez Ramírez and the National District.

While Dajabón, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Espaillat, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Monte Plata, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, Samaná, El Seibo, La Romana are on yellow alert.

La Altagracia, Hermanas Mirabal, Puerto Plata, Santiago, and Santiago Rodríguez are on green alert.

The COE recommends that people refrain from crossing rivers, streams and ravines that have high volumes of water and not use spas (rivers) in the provinces under alert.
