Knesset Member Criticizes IDF Conduct During Fighting

In a recent Facebook post, Knesset member Almog Cohen of the “Otzma Yehudit” party voiced his criticism of the conduct of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) during the fighting and called for a little modesty and listening to soldiers of lower ranks.

Cohen began his post by sharing his personal experience and emphasized the importance of humility within the army and other operational organizations. He recounted his practice of meeting or speaking with fighters and intelligence personnel in the “junior” sector before every scene review to hear their perspectives. He expressed disappointment with the lack of modesty among the senior officers and their arrogance in distorting operational reality.

Furthermore, Cohen raised concerns about the lack of humility and the dismissal of the opinions of ordinary soldiers within the IDF. He called for the military to change its organizational culture and to listen to the voices of those whose ranks shine the least. “Maybe simplicity is what we need?” he questioned.

He also suggested the need for an investigation after the war, stating that “an investigation is the lighting of the barbecue on which the lower ranks are placed (not necessarily punitive, more psychologically).” Cohen believes that the nation of Israel lives and will win, but that it is important for the IDF to conduct a lesson in humility and acknowledge the wisdom of ordinary soldiers.

Cohen’s post has sparked a discussion among social media users, with many sharing their opinions on the matter. It remains to be seen how the IDF will respond to his criticism and whether any changes will be made in the future.
