Zakharova accuses the West of trying to separate Armenia from Moscow

The official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia accused the West of trying to separate Armenia from the West and drew parallels between Ukraine and this South Caucasus country.

“After the failure of the Western Ukrainian policy, it clings to Armenia like a wild animal and tries to tear it away from Russia”Maria Zakharova he said in a press briefing on November 15.

Zakharova touched on the recent steps of the Armenian leadership. He stressed that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan did not attend the expected summit of the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Minsk, emphasized that the West is expanding the supply of weapons to Armenia, and called the friendship between Yerevan and Kyiv “links of the same chain”.

“But it seems to me that it is a chain of slavery”– the Russian diplomat said.

He claimed that “Western recommendations” prevent the Armenian leadership from completing the task of opening transport links in the South Caucasus.

According to him, the tripartite working group, attended by representatives of Moscow, Yerevan and Baku, made significant progress in June regarding the restoration of the railway connection between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
