The Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes against the Cultural Heritage of the Nation of the Public Ministry presented this Friday, November 17, six requests for withdrawal of immunity, which includes the elected president, Bernardo Arévalo.

It’s news. The Public Ministry confirmed, through its social networks, the request for a pretrial against the elected duo, made up of Bernardo Arévalo and Karín Herrera. The petition also reaches deputies Carlos Barreda, Adán Pérez, Samuel Pérez, Román Castellanos, Aldo Dávila and elected deputy Raúl Barrera.

The petition is derived from the case “Takeover of the USAC: Political Loot”, for which on Thursday, November 16, 27 arrest warrants were issued, of which five were executed. The decision on immunity is now in the hands of the judges of the Supreme Court of Justice.

The data. According to the Public Ministry, the objective of the takeover of the USAC was the “commission of crimes to nominate and support political party candidates for the highest positions of popular election.”

Those captured are Alfredo Enrique Beber Aceituno and Eduardo Antonio Velásquez, as well as the dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Rodolfo Chang.

Also included are the former candidate for deputy of the Movimiento Semilla party, Marcela Blanco, and the Physics student, Javier De León. All are accused of continuously aggravated usurpation, depredation of cultural property, sedition and illicit association.

Historical fisgón. The takeover of the USAC was recorded from May 19, 2022 to June 9, 2023 after the participation of electoral bodies was not allowed in the rector election that gave Walter Mazariegos the winner.

Five days before the election, the election was held, which did not allow the participation of other candidates. In the process there was also no access to the media.
