The German youth language is as dynamic as the youth themselves. Year after year, new terms creep into the vocabulary of the generations. New words and expressions that capture the zeitgeist and reflect current trends.

How is the youth word determined?
He has been voting since 2008 Langenscheidt Publishing House the youth word of the year. Until 2019, the youth word was determined by a jury of language experts and representatives of youth culture.
From 2020, however, there was a significant change in the selection process: young people themselves were given the opportunity to submit the youth word of the year directly to Langenscheidt Verlag and vote on their homepage.
This makes it possible to involve the actual users of youth language more in the selection process and thus choose an authentic and current youth word.
