Avishag Samberg is the Israeli champion again. The taekwondo fighter, who won a historic bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics last summer, added a gold medal to the balance at the Israeli championships held in Ramla today (Friday).

Samberg defeated Zohar Barda 2:23 in the final in the weight category up to 49 kg. She took advantage of the height and quality advantage to lead 2: 9 at the end of the first round. The competition was held this year to mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of 11 Munich victims and in the presence of Ramla Mayor Michael Vidal, MK Simon Davidson and Olympic Committee Chairman Yael Arad. Yael Arad said at the ceremony: “Taekwondo has made a very big leap this year and has a great future. We really like martial arts in Israel and with the successes of Avishag and the other athletes I have no doubt that you can be a major Olympic sport. “This year we will commemorate the murder of 11 Munich victims in several events. We grew up on their legacy and if this heinous murder had not taken place the development of Israeli sports would have been much greater.”
