The storms once again caused fatalities and disruption in the southern region of Brazil. This weekend, four people died in Rio Grande do Sul and three in Santa Catarina. Hundreds are homeless. Two men and a 2-year-old child are still missing.
Until the night of this Saturday, the 18th, the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul had already received incidents in 38 municipalities. There are warnings about flash floods, floods and landslides in the State.
According to municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul, more than 31 thousand people were affected. At least 399 are homeless and 1,600 are homeless.

The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), published a video on his social networks. He asked residents of the Vale do Taquari region to leave their homes and seek shelter in a safe place.
According to Leite, there is a risk that the population of Rio Grande do Sul “will experience an episode similar to that experienced in September”.

Civil Defense issued a alert for the level of the Rio das Antas. According to the agency, there is a risk for cities close to the Castro Alves Hydroelectric Plant dam, in Nova Roma do Sul (RS).
Leite is planning a visit, this Monday, 20th, to the affected locations. The governor asked the federal government for support from the armed forces with trucks, boats, aircraft and human resources to help with rescues and removals in the Taquari Valley.
To date, the government of Rio Grande do Sul, through the State Coordination of Protection and Civil Defense, has already delivered 400 basic food baskets to the cities of Alegrete and São Borja; 250 to Vila Nova do Sul and 200 to Giruá.

Lidowina Lehnen, aged 86, and Elisabeta Maria Benisch Ponath, aged 51, mother and daughter, were buried in the house where they lived together, in the city of Gramado, in Serra Gaúcha. Two other people, who lived with them, managed to leave the residence at the time of the tragedy.
Luis Antônio Martins, of unknown age, had been missing since Saturday 18th, when his car was carried away by the current on the ERS-437, between the cities of Antônio Prado and Vila Flores, also in Serra Gaúcha.
Tatiane Pazinato, also with no age disclosed, had her body located in the early hours of this Sunday, the 19th. The car she was in fell into the Rio Turvo.

Also this weekend, in the Santa Catarina city of Palmitos, a 46-year-old man died when the watercraft he was riding collided with electrical wiring. The other two deaths occurred in the city of Taió. Two women died after their car sank in a flooded area due to rain.
The Military Fire Department continues to search for an elderly man, aged 70, who disappeared after his house was swept away and destroyed by a flood in Praia Grande, in the south of Santa Catarina.
