Authorities of the Ministry of Health They updated the number of dengue cases which amount to 53,705. The majority of cases are concentrated in Quetzaltenango, Quiché, Escuintla, Chiquimula and Sacatepéquez.
It’s news. The latest update reflects that cases have increased five times more when compared to 2022 when the number reached 7,454 cases.
There are 45,753 cases of dengue without warning signs and 7,664 with warning signs. 87 deaths are reported.
What to highlight. The authorities asked the population that, if they suspect dengue symptoms such as fever, headache, joint pain and pain behind the eyes, among others, it is important to go to a health service.
They stressed that they should not self-medicate, which is why they insisted that early and timely care is vital to becoming seriously ill.
The data. Dengue is a disease transmitted by mosquitoes, and occurs in tropical and subtropical areas of the world.
Due to the number of cases, the Ministry of Health declared a health emergency throughout the country on August 31.
Historical fisgón. According to Health records, 2019 was the year with the highest number of cases reported in Guatemala, with 50 thousand cases of dengue.
