JAKARTA – The presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs in the 2024 presidential election supported by the Perindo Party, Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD, have again received support from community groups. This time support came from fishermen in Cirebon Regency, West Java.
Support for Ganjar and Mahfud in the 2024 elections was carried out by holding a prayer procession in the middle of the sea on Friday 17 November 2023. They also asked God Almighty to always provide protection for safety, health and sustenance in carrying out their profession as fishermen.
Dozens of fishermen carried out a prayer procession starting from Bungko Kidul village. Dozens of fishermen who had gathered together then took a boat to the sea.
After reaching the designated meeting point at sea, they then said a prayer together to pray for the success of the Ganjar-Mahfud couple in the presidential election, as well as prayers for the smooth running of their livelihoods.
One of the reasons for support is because Ganjar’s figure is considered populist and ready to accommodate the aspirations of fishermen.
“So it wasn’t just during this election that I saw him (close to the people),” explained Muhammad, one of the fishermen who took part in the procession, Monday (20/11/2023).
Another fisherman, Nogi, admitted that Mahfud’s figure was also an added value to the couple. He believes that Mahfud MD is capable of being firm in enforcing the law in Indonesia.
“When I watched Mr. Mahfud discussing with members of the DPR, he firmly said that corruptors would continue to be pursued and eradicated. Wow, that’s very good, Mr. Mahfud,” said Nogi.
The fishermen’s support was welcomed by presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo. In the midst of his busy schedule, Ganjar chatted with the fishermen via video call.
Ganjar also expressed his deep gratitude for the support that has been shown to the fishermen, as well as providing encouragement to the fishermen in carrying out their daily profession.
