The debate about the wearing of pants by women was very intense decades ago, when the “uses and customs” of Pentecostal churches, especially the Assembly of God, were very strict in relation to women’s clothing. Now, the subject has returned with different approaches in different churches.
Pastor Rodrigo Mocellin, from Igreja Resgatar, published a video talking about the subject. In his view, the rejection of the biblical debate on clothing “shows how, for many people, [o tema] He’s an idol.”

In the video, he considers that his own wife sometimes wears pants, but is careful to cover her hips so that the piece does not highlight the details of her body. A similar approach is adopted by singer Fernanda Brumwhich condemns the use of pieces that outline the curves of the female body.
Mocellin pointed out that many Christians conform to “the moral standard that most people follow”, which makes the situation problematic and difficult to discuss in evangelical circles: “I don’t remember hearing [sobre] nowhere, because it’s not talked about. Maybe in some more Pentecostal movement. […] In the reformed world, it’s not talked about as much. Obviously, something is said, but it is explicitly not a topic that is talked about that much.”
“Our parameter, our rule of faith in practice is the Word of God, not what everyone is doing. […] There is no explicit passage saying ‘you shall not wear such clothing’. See, there is no direct biblical passage saying ‘thou shalt not snort cocaine’. There are many things that the Bible does not speak directly about, even because they did not exist at the time the Bible was written”, argued the pastor.
The solution to the impasse regarding pants, according to him, is to follow the coherence proposed by the Scriptures: “We have to be guided by principles. What are the Bible’s principles regarding clothing? In the Bible, firstly, exposing the body is always synonymous with shame. […] Paul says that the husband’s body belongs to the wife, and the wife’s body belongs to the husband. In other words, his body belongs to his spouse. Her body should not be exposed to anyone other than her husband. And the same goes for the husband.”
“Solomon says that his bride, his wife, is like an enclosed garden. The problem is that many believers’ wives are public squares. It is a closed garden, no one should have access. Obviously he is talking about the sexual issue, but the exposure of your body has to do with that, it also covers the issue of clothing”, he emphasized.
