This was stated in the program Entre-vistas con Alma de País – a program of the Presidency of the Republic – when interviewed by journalist Patricia Pardo, who questioned her about the results that the national government’s “total peace” policy has given. .

Given this, the vice president stated that without a doubt “we must move forward in resolving the armed conflict in this country, there is no discussion there” and put on the table the problems experienced in the Colombian Pacific.

“This country cannot stand to continue being subjected to violence. The problem is not just the kidnapping, we have countless families confined by the situation of confrontation between armed groups: the ELN, the dissidents and the Gulf clan,” said Márquez.

In this sense, the vice president expressed that “we cannot ignore that the security situation is not the best, so we have to make every effort to strengthen it with a human security approach, because it is not only the presence of the State, but arriving with social investment to those territories.”

In this regard, he assured that this is a discussion that he has raised within the Executive. “I have been very insistent within our government and with our military and police forces. On the one hand, we have to advance peace, but also provide security,” he added.

Currently, there is great expectation for the progress of peace dialogues with different armed groups – such as the ELN –, which would allow not only a ceasefire, but also the cessation of hostilities in the national territory.

In the midst of these negotiations, one of the aspects that has been emphasized is the need for the Public Force to continue being present and for the State not to bow down to the requests of some illegal groups.

For now, the process in Buenaventura (Valle del Cauca) with the local gangs is advancing and, in fact, it was agreed to extend the cessation of violence until February 2024. However, there is uncertainty regarding those that involve the ELN already. the FARC dissidents grouped in the Central General Staff (EMC).
