MINISTER of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman together with the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) Alumni Association are ready to accelerate planting and increase productivity through IPB’s superior varieties which will be planted on 500 hectares of land in Subang Regency, West Java. According to Amran, IPB and its alumni have human resource capabilities and the development of superior seeds with one of the highest yields in Indonesia. Therefore, he wants the land clearing to be able to produce productivity above 10 tonnes per hectare. “Today I had an honored guest, the chairman of the IPB Alumni. He, my friend, then brought in experts from IPB. We collaborate, we will not build a model but build a 500 hectare rice field. We prepare the facilities, agricultural machinery. “He will provide assistance and we have promised production, well this needs to be recorded as 12 tons per hectare,” said the Minister of Agriculture after receiving a visit from the IPB Alumni Team, Tuesday (21/11). The Minister of Agriculture said that if this development runs consistently, within 10 years Indonesia will turn into the strongest country in the fields of defense and food supply. Therefore, he requested that this collaboration receive supervision from all levels of the Ministry of Agriculture. “If this becomes a reality, I believe that within 10 years it will become the most powerful country in the world. We promise to come down and control production to reach 12 tons per hectare,” he said. Technically, said the Minister of Agriculture, this collaboration will also involve various parties, including students who are sensitive to the course of Indonesia’s agricultural development. Furthermore, they will be involved in seed management until post-harvest. He hopes that with this collaboration, Indonesia can accelerate its self-sufficiency so that in the future it will no longer depend on import policies. “Usually 1 hectare requires around 25 kilos, right? Well, 25 kilos per hectare is multiplied by 500 hectares. We are grateful because the funding is from the Ministry of Agriculture.
