Saudi Arabia’s foreign action presents a multifaceted profile, with many problematic aspects. In its immediate environment, the country is having serious difficulties in emerging as a regional hegemonic power: its military deterrence system has failed appreciably in Yemen, where it has lost control over the northern territory, now in the hands of the Houthis.
The key challenges in Saudi Arabia’s immediate environment are, without a doubt, Israel and Iran. In this sense, the recent attack by Hamas on Israel cannot be ignored, a disruptive event that has strained Saudi politics and put its latest diplomatic efforts with both countries on hold.
On the contrary, on the global stage, Saudi Arabia is an impressive power: it has very positive economic and social conditions that it is using to successfully position itself in the emerging geopolitical environments where an economic alternative to the G7 is being forged.
Saudi Arabia has fully entered into this world that is changing the rules of the global order and whose dynamism causes tensions with the aforementioned G7, which has lost the capacity to govern.
In accordance with its economic dominance, Saudi Arabia will have more decision-making power in international organizations and more political authority in the global environment.
