The pontifical foundation Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) published a report in which he assures that the kidnapping of priests and religious advances at an alarming rate in 2023, regretting that it has become a lucrative business for criminals.

The report released on November 13 details that, although the majority of those affected are released, some have met their deaths, “leaving Catholics in constant fear.”

Until November 13, 2023, ACN counted 23 kidnappings of priests, religious and seminarians, a figure slightly lower than that presented in the December 2022 report, which reported 28 kidnappings of pastoral agents throughout that year. Of those kidnapped, one was murdered and the other 22 were released. The case of the Benedictine novice Godwin Eze stands out, kidnapped from his monastery on October 17 and later shot dead.
