In the near future, work will begin in the city to set up a new mode for traffic lights located on the transit roads P. Kerese and Rahu. From now on, traffic lights at pedestrian crossings will turn on the green signal for pedestrians only when a button is pressed, the press service of the Narva City Government reported on Tuesday evening.

According to the head of the Department of Municipal Economy, Natalya Shibalova, reprogramming traffic light systems to activate special buttons will be done for the convenience of both motorists and pedestrians. “This is exactly the decision we came to after discussing the issue with representatives of the Police and Border Guard Board, as well as the installer and configurator of the traffic light system, Traffesti OÜ. According to the information we currently have, work on installing the necessary programs and cycles will be completed by the company no later than December 11. The only group of traffic lights that will continue to operate as before, without pressing buttons, is located at the P. Kerese – Krengolmi intersection,” added Natalya Shibalova.

It should be noted that pedestrians who will cross the P. Kerese and Rahu transit roads will provide themselves with a green light by pressing a button, due to which the red light for vehicle drivers at pedestrian crossings will light up only when someone really wants to cross the road.

At the same time, traffic lights located at pedestrian crossings adjacent to the transit roads of streets (for example, Vyidu St., Partizani St., Linda St., Energiya St., etc.) will always light up in the green signal mode for pedestrians. “They will switch to the red signal for a pedestrian contactlessly, using special sensors that detect a car approaching the crossing and moving towards the transit road, that is, entering Rahu or Kerese Street. In this case, the sensor will work and the green signal will turn on for the motorist and the red signal for the pedestrian. The duration of the red and green signal periods is planned to be adjusted in such a way as to avoid conflicts among all interested parties,” noted Natalya Shibalova, head of the Department of Municipal Services.

On November 7, the traffic lights of P. Kerese and Rahu streets, installed within the framework of the TEN-T project, operate in operating mode from 07.00 to 09.00 and from 16.00 to 18.00, and the rest of the time in the yellow signal flashing mode. The head of the Department of Municipal Affairs noted that this decision is temporary, so all road users are asked to be careful on the roads.
