For once, the petite young woman who took the stand – this Wednesday – at the Meaux criminal court was not the victim of domestic violence. She was the author. At only 19 years old, this resident of Torcy was also appearing for death threats and harassment. Her ex-boyfriend, who filed and then withdrew his complaint in mid-October, did not attend the hearing.

“It’s serious from an outside point of view but not for him and me. I know the rest and it’s a waste of time. It’s been like that for a year,” said the Torcéenne, who spoke of strangulations inflicted by her ex-boyfriend. President Cécile Lemoine reminded him of a point of law: “It is not he who decides whether you must go to court. It is the prosecutor who believes that you must be held accountable.”

The couple formed in October 2022. Two months later, a first separation ended this “toxic” relationship. Their affair had resumed, with its ups and downs. But on October 12, the young man left his friend and “blocked” her on social networks, triggering her wrath. Namely dozens of phone calls, messages like “I’m going to burn your house down, I’m going to kill you” and a punch in the face.

Ban on contact with the victim

At the hearing, the president read the messages that the young man had also sent to his ex. Texts in which he presented himself as a “psychopath”, who was going to “plant” and “eat” her. Words that made the defendant smile but not the president. “We are all happy to be here. We are not here to do mediation and marital therapy,” said the magistrate, a bit annoyed.

Prosecutor Éric de Valroger, considering that the evidence was not gathered, requested acquittal concerning the harassment and threats. Before requiring “for an isolated blow” an empowerment course for the prevention and fight against violence within the couple. The judges followed the requisitions, also prohibiting the defendant from coming into contact with the victim for one year.
