Sexual violence fileThe American actor is the target of a complaint for sexual assault in New York in 2015, according to a document from the New York justice system on the eve of the expiration of a law which allows victims of sexual violence to file complaints in civil proceedings for prescribed facts.

After P.Diddy, Axl Rose and Donald Trump, it is Jamie Foxx’s turn to be targeted by a complaint for sexual assault in New York. The actor, who notably played Quentin Tarantino’s Django, is accused of acts dating back to August 2015. According to this legal action dated Wednesday, November 22 and filed before the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Eric Marlon Bishop, alias Jamie Foxx, “sexually assaulted” the complainant, who insisted on remaining anonymous, during an evening on the roof terrace of a bar-restaurant in Manhattan. The actor is notably accused of having “slipped his hands into the complainant’s underwear and of having placed his fingers in her vagina and anus”. The bar-restaurant-lounge Catch NYC & Roof and its owner-manager Mark Birnbaum are also targeted by this civil complaint.

Already on Friday evening, American hip-hop star Sean Combs, Puff Daddy on stage, and his ex-partner Casandra Ventura, aka Cassie, an R&B singer, had reached an “amicable” agreement the next day of a civil complaint against him for rape and physical and psychological violence between 2005 and 2018. On Wednesday, it was Axl Rose, the leader of Guns’n Roses, who was the subject of a civil complaint registered in New York, for “sexual assault” and “violence” against this woman, who is the same age as her alleged attacker. The facts allegedly occurred in 1989 in a New York hotel room, after a meeting in a nightclub.

A law which expires this Thursday

All these civil legal actions are made possible thanks to a law in the State of New York which allows since November 2022 – but only for one year until this Thursday of the Thanksgiving holiday – victims of sexual violence to bring civil complaint for prescribed criminal or tort acts. This local legislation, called the Adult Survivors Act, allowed many plaintiffs to take civil action against their alleged sexual attackers, often high-profile figures.

Thus in May, former US President Donald Trump was found responsible for sexual assault against former Elle magazine columnist, E. Jean Carroll, in a New York department store in 1996. E. Jean Carroll had hit five million dollars in damages paid by Donald Trump.
