A boost awaited by many French people. Like every year since 1998 and its introduction by the Jospin government (1,000 francs at the time), a Christmas bonus will be paid to the most modest households, more precisely to beneficiaries of certain social minimums. Additional assistance will be paid to other households.

According to information from TF1 collected from the Ministry of Solidarity and Families, this aid will be paid from December 15, 2023. It concerns people who have received the active solidarity income (RSA), the fixed bonus for resumption of activity, the allowance of specific solidarity (ASS) or the retirement equivalent allowance (AER) for the months of November or December 2023. The French receive the allowance for disabled adults (AAH), the activity bonus or even personalized housing assistance ( APL) are not eligible for the Christmas bonus.

This year, around 2.3 million households should receive this tax-free bonus, the amounts of which will be the same as those paid in 2022, namely 152.45 euros minimum for a single person.

New help for single-parent families

If this amount is fixed for people who receive ASS or AER regardless of the number of people in their household, it is variable for RSA beneficiaries. It is increased by 50% (228.67 euros) when the household is made up of two people, then by 30% for each additional person. From the third child, the amount is increased by 40% and 60.98 euros are added per additional person from five children.

As we revealed to you on November 7, following a vote by the National Assembly, additional aid to the Christmas bonus should be automatically paid by the Family Allowance Fund (CAF) for single-parent families, in an amount ranging from 115 to 200 euros. This was approved on Wednesday by Parliament as part of the examination of the end-of-management finance bill. It should concern around 500,000 families, those living below the poverty line (whose income does not exceed 1,151 euros per month with one child or 1,416 euros for two children).

RSA beneficiaries automatically receive this payment from the CAF or the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA), while beneficiaries of the ASS, the AER or the fixed monthly return to work bonus receive for their part a transfer from Pôle emploi, also without any steps to take.
