Who hasn’t at least been tempted to look down when faced with an attack on the subway? To combat gender-based and sexual violence in transport, the authorities are calling for the mobilization of witnesses to these acts. This is the whole purpose of a new government information campaign: “Against the aggressors, let us raise our eyes”, indicate the posters, with a close-up photo of a gaze fixed on the lens in the background. .

The government indicates that the campaign has three objectives: “Reassure victims by reaffirming their rights, address witnesses, because they can make the difference in this type of situation, and firmly condemn the attackers by explicitly naming them. » Remember that 87% of female public transport users say they have been the victim of harassment, sexual assault or rape at least once in their life.

Launch with great fanfare Friday

The theme chosen for this campaign is the fruit of the work of the Action Committee against harassment and sexist and sexual violence in transport, created a year ago by the government. It lists “the actions to be carried out on the ground”, in coordination with associations and operators (RATP, SNCF, etc.).

The campaign, which can already be seen in certain public transport stations, will be officially launched this Friday morning, at Saint-Lazare station, by the Prime Minister, Élisabeth Borne, the Minister Delegate in charge of Equality between Women and the men, Bérangère Couillard, and the Minister Delegate in charge of Transport, Clément Beaune. Nearly 3,000 posters will be displayed in metro stations, SNCF stations, and on buses in Île-de-France. In the rest of the country, 2,000 posters will be displayed, particularly in major cities. The campaign will end on December 12.

In addition, the government publishes with the media Simone a Guide against gender-based and sexual violence on public transport, in digital form and in paper form. It is aimed at both witnesses and victims of violence.
