Open University Improves Village Welfare Through Community Service Masters

Higher education institutions have an important role in finding solutions to solve various problems in society in order to realize the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045. This is what educators from the Open University (UT) continue to carry out through community service (PkM) in accordance with the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. The various results of UT’s community service have now entered the introduction stage to the public through the 2023 Senmaster event entitled “Community Empowerment Improving the Quality of Life Towards a Golden Indonesia 2045” which was held at UT’s central campus on Thursday (23/11). Deputy Chancellor for Institutional Development and Cooperation, Rahmat Budiman, M.Hum., Ph.D., said that Senmaster is an annual academic forum held by the Community Service Center (LPPM UT) for community service program practitioners. Also read: Leadershippreneurship is needed in the era of global uncertainty towards a golden Indonesia “This activity is a form of proof that the task of lecturers is not only to teach, the knowledge possessed by lecturers is responsible for empowering and advancing society,” he said when met by Media Indonesia at the Open University Building, on Thursday (23/11). He continued one of the community service activities (PkM) which substantively is a form of downstream research and innovation results from the UT academic community. In the 5th year of the event, various parties from academics, policy makers, the community and students met and exchanged ideas regarding science, knowledge, experience as well as enthusiasm and inspiration in efforts empowerment of village communities. “Today we are presenting the results of our thoughts and research results for community service in the form of developing or making various finished products from various regions and holding efforts or the fruits of our research efforts towards community empowerment,” he explained. Apart from that, Senmaster 2023 also presented papers resulting from community service by 113 presenters consisting of lecturers, education staff and students. At the event, 40 booths of PkM products produced by the UT academic community were presented, which were divided into 4 categories of results, namely Culinary, Fashion, Tools/Technology, and Environment. Chairman of the Senmaster Committee and Results Degree Dr. Heriani, S.IP., M., explained that by 2023, UT will have produced 500 research pieces consisting of 239 types of research/programs in the form of community service. Of the hundreds of PkM research, 60 programs are in collaboration with students and the rest are assisted village programs that dominate the field of entrepreneurship to help develop products. “Community service activities involve lecturers, students as well as the community. “This year, around 5 billion in funds are available for service activities for 239 programs, so lecturers who have successfully carried out community service activities will convey their scientific knowledge through this seminar,” he explained. The Main Goal of the Assisted Village Program Meanwhile, the Head of LPPM, Terbu University, Prof. Dra. Dewi Artati Padmo Putri, MA, Ph.D. said that improving the standard of living and welfare of village communities is the main goal of the assisted village program promoted by the Open University (UT). “The lecturers hold assisted villages throughout Indonesia, so this year we started around 40 assisted villages, of which 20 villages are in Jabodetabek and the rest are outside the region. “As for the program for students, we provide opportunities for those who already have businesses to develop their businesses,” he explained. On this occasion, Head of the Human Resources, Energy and Mineral Resources Development Agency Prahoro Yulijanto Nurtjahyo, Ph.D. describes Indonesia’s energy potential and how to improve the quality of life of human resources within the scope of ESDM. “The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has actively carried out community empowerment through Community Training in mining producing areas. “This certificate is given to people in the EBR area because we want local residents not only to be spectators but also to take part in managing and working in the industry,” Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Tourism & Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia Sapta Nirwandar said that community service is a the need to increase the potential of human and natural resources. On this occasion, Sapta praised UT as one of the educational institutions that is consistent in developing IT or technology in teaching systems. “I appreciate UT’s speed as a pioneer educational institution that can implement distance education using technology and interesting content. “The products from the assisted villages that are created must also continue to be connected to various retail industries to be curated and marketed to increase people’s income,” he said.
