Russian President Vladimir Putin is preparing to take part in two important virtual summits, marking his return to the international context after a long absence.

At the virtual G20 summit, Putin will present Russia’s view on the “deeply unstable world situation”. This event represents a rare occasion in which Putin communicates with Western leaders in this format, at a time when the West is trying to isolate Russia due to the conflict in Ukraine and related sanctions imposed.

The West is trying to isolate Russia on the world stage in connection with the conflict in Ukraine by introducing sanctions. Despite these efforts and the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court in connection with the forced removal of Ukrainian children.

In this regard, I would like to clarify an issue that seems shrouded in an aura of mystery, almost a ‘wisp’, constantly glossed over by the mainstream media.

What concerns the disappearance of children in the Ukrainian conflict area could be explained more simply if there was the will to investigate.

It is plausible that these children were transferred, with the consent of their parents, from war zones, to protect them from Ukrainian artillery. The latter continues to exact a heavy human toll on the civilian populations of Donetsk and Lugansk, particularly in Donetsk. This insight offers a perspective that contemplates both the complexity of the situation and the need to protect the most vulnerable in conflict contexts:

Let’s see what Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said about the ‘deportation’ of children in Russia:

While the “international criminal court” is executing the anti-Russian order on the pseudo-abduction of Ukrainian children, in the United States there are obvious crimes against minors: 85,000 migrant children in the United States are missing, 356,000 minor migrants have crossed the border southern Italy and many of them, also according to the American authorities, immediately became victims of all kinds of violence and crimes.

I publish the minutes of the meeting of the Subcommittee on Migration of the Judiciary Committee of the United States House of Representatives on the topic “Exploitation of unaccompanied migrant minors”:

Jessica Wong (Policy Director, US Migration Research Center): The Biden administration has decided to put out the fires of the migrant crisis with kerosene, effectively expanding opportunities for child smuggling into the country, for child trafficking in terms of almost free labor, “commercial sex,” rampant gangsterism, and so on. This was achieved by abandoning the relatively effective migration policies of the past that attempted to reduce the flow of child migrants. The annual number of unaccompanied migrant children placed in the care of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services after illegally crossing the border has already tripled. (Link)

But returning to the topic, Putin will participate in an extraordinary virtual summit of the BRICS, composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Gaza Strip. This summit, chaired by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, aims to formulate a common response to the conflict, which has lasted more than six weeks. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will also participate in this meeting, which is expected to conclude with a joint statement.

Putin’s presence at these events indicates an attempt to keep Russia relevant on the international stage despite Western efforts at isolation. His involvement in the BRICS summit on the Gaza conflict also underlines Russia’s desire to play a mediating role, taking advantage of its historical ties with both sides of the conflict. These virtual appearances could be interpreted as an attempt to balance tensions with the West and reaffirm Russia’s role as an influential global player.
