The Hungarian Prime Minister is accused of wielding his right of veto against European aid to Ukraine in order to obtain the release of European funds intended for his country.
On Thursday, Hungary was authorized to receive 900 million euros in European funds as an advance on its recovery plan. But the disbursements of the Hungarian plan of a total amount of 10.4 billion euros (6.5 billion in grants and 3.9 billion in loans) remain subject to progress in particular in terms of the independence of justice, fight against corruption and public procurement rules.
In addition to the recovery plan, some 22 billion in cohesion funds intended for Hungary as part of the 2021-2027 budget are also frozen by Brussels, suspended from reforms to improve the independence of justice, the rights of LGBT+ people, the academic independence of universities in particular.
