Patricia Bullrich, former presidential candidate for the right-wing opposition Together for Change, now Minister of Security under Javier Milei

Within the framework of the agreements established in the “Acassuso pact”, Patricia Bullrich has accepted Javier Milei’s proposal to once again lead the Ministry of Security as of December 10. This decision marks a turning point in the political alliance with La Libertad Avanza, which was in a state of uncertainty due to the lack of concrete proposals to integrate macrista and bullrichista figures into the cabinet.

Despite her previous statements expressing her reluctance to return to office, the former presidential candidate reconsidered her position, basing her decision on the need to strengthen the political alliance.

The “Acassuso pact” has been the catalyst for the return of Bullrich, at a time when negotiations between the libertarians and the “hawks” of the PRO, while Mauricio Macri is in Saudi Arabia, have entered a crucial phase.

In this context, Luis “Toto” Caputo, former Secretary of Finance and former head of the Central Bank during Macri’s administration, emerges as Milei’s main candidate to head the Ministry of Economy. On the other hand, Omar Yasin, labor lawyer for the PRO and former collaborator of Bullrich, is mentioned as the possible Secretary of Labor within the Ministry of Human Capital.

In statements to the TN signal, Bullrich expressed his willingness to assume the position if it is offered to him, underlining the importance of the formation of the government and governability. However, he made it clear that no one has formally proposed anything to him face to face and stressed the need to focus on the crucial topics of discussion.

Bullrich’s acceptance entails an explicit rejection of the possible merger of the Security and Defense ministries, a proposal supported by some sectors of La Libertad Avanza close to the elected vice president, Victoria Villarruel.
