IRIS VAN HERPEN

The Museum of Decorative Arts pays tribute to the Dutch fashion designer Iris Van Herpen, today recognized as one of the most avant-garde figures of her generation. Conceived as a true immersive and sensorial exploration into the designer’s universe, this retrospective, which fuses fashion, contemporary art, design and science, is structured around eight themes that identify the very essence of her work.

Founded in 2007 and today a member of the Fédération de la Haute Couture, Maison Iris van Herpen is known for combining the subtleties of craftsmanship with the pioneering spirit of innovation, to consider fashion as an interdisciplinary language. Proof of this are his collaborations with other creators and thinkers, such as the sculptor Anthony Howe, the architect Philip Beesley or even more recently with the artist Casey Curran.

From the micro to the macro, the exhibition questions the place of the body in space, its relationship with clothing and its environment, its future in a rapidly changing world. The exhibition brings together around a hundred dresses by Iris van Herpen that interact with a selection of contemporary works of art, installations, videos, photographs and works of natural history. An evocation of her workshop in Amsterdam and a space dedicated to her fashion shows complete the tour entirely accompanied by a sound work created by the artist Salvador Breed.

Iris Van Herpen, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris. From November 29, 2023 to April 28, 2024.
