Alarmed by a massive outbreak of violence on Dublin’s streets, Irish politicians and society are discussing the causes and background this weekend. Several hundred mostly young people rioted around a social hotspot in the Irish capital on Thursday afternoon. They attacked the police with fireworks, set fire to a number of police vehicles, buses and a tram and looted surrounding shops. “We are not like that and we never want to be like that,” said Prime Minister Leo Varadkar. “The perpetrators have disgraced themselves, their families and Ireland.”
