Renfe has been the Official Train of a journalistic day dedicated to commemorating the fortieth anniversary of the Spain-Malta football match. Between November 22 and 23, Seville hosted several tribute events, both to the players of that match, and to Jos ngel de la Casa, for his professional career linked to sports on TVE.

On the first day, the former soccer players once again posed for photographers at the Batic stadium, while a documentary about the journalist was presented. Yesterday, on the 23rd, a ‘Day on sports journalism: yesterday, today and always’ was held, which consisted of four round tables and a colloquium in which the best-known journalists from the Spanish sports scene, players and coaches participated.

Among the guests, some of whom traveled to Seville on an AVE train from Madrid, were well-known names such as Juanma Castao, Jess Gallego, José Ramón de la Morena, Josep Pedrerol, Alfredo Relao, Juan Ignacio Gallardo, Oscar Campillo, Santi Nolla, Esteban Urreiztieta, Ana José Cancio, Mnica Marchante or Paco Grande. Many of the players called up for that match also attended the events, such as Buyo, Zubizarreta, Señor, Carrasco, Rincón, Gordillo, Goikoetxea, Sarabia and Maceda.

The Sports Train

Renfe supports this initiative within the framework of the ‘Spanish Sports Train’ program to promote the use of the railway as a sustainable means of transport among high-level athletes to participate in sports competitions in the national territory.
