The Southern African Development Community (SADC) confirms its position on the election. It officially launched its electoral observation mission in the country on November 12, despite the attempt of mediators and civil society organizations to explain to them the situation and the need to postpone the election.

The mission, made up of 55 people from 7 SADC member countries, all English-speaking, will assess the pre-electoral and post-electoral period, as well as the progress of the November 16 election. The mission will carry out observations during the counting and counting of votes, and will present a preliminary report on the conduct of the first round of the presidential election on November 18.

The members of the mission arrived on November 2 and received training on electoral observations adapted to the situation in Madagascar. The principles and guidelines governing democratic elections were listed in a launch speech and in an 87-page document. These principles include respect for the rule of law, the Constitution, free and transparent elections, and the promotion of electoral integrity and justice.

Representatives of the mediation and dialogue platform expressed concerns regarding the first round of the November 16 election, and the mission committed to organizing meetings to try to establish a climate of pre-electoral appeasement.
