23 Thai and Filipino citizens released from Hamas captivity through Iranian mediation

by time news

The Prime Minister of Thailand announced today that 11 foreign citizens, including ten Thais and one Filipino, have been released from their captors in Hamas. The negotiations with Hamas were separate from those with Israel and were mediated by Iran. More Thai citizens are expected to be released in the coming days.

According to the pro-Qatari newspaper Al-Arabi Al-Jadid, Hamas has confirmed that they will release 23 Thai workers through Iranian mediation, without any conditions. Iran played a partial role in the mediation at the request of the Thai government, providing information and details about the condition of the abductees.

Israel has estimated that there are likely 23 Thai laborers still alive in Gaza. After the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, photos from Kibbutz Alumim showed foreign workers, including Thais and Nepalis, who were later executed by the terrorists. The forces that arrived at the scene found only bodies hours later.
