Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo held a press conference during their visit to the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip on Friday, after to meet with Egyptian President al-Sissi.

Both European leaders criticized the war between Israel and Hamas and the deaths of thousands of civilians.

The head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, called for a “lasting humanitarian ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip and condemned the deaths of thousands of civilians in Israel and Palestine.

“The indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians, including thousands of boys and girls, is completely unacceptable. Violence will only lead to more violence,” he said.

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo repeated that Israel has the right to self-defense, but also blamed the country for the deaths of civilians in Gaza, saying it was “unacceptable.”

“The destruction of Gaza is unacceptable. We cannot accept that a society is being destroyed the way it is being destroyed,” she said.

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said that the ambassadors of the two European countries were recalled due to “false allegations” and that “Israel is acting in accordance with international law and combating a murderous terrorist organization worse than the State Islamist, who commits war crimes and crimes against humanity.”
