Honda Recalling Over 300,000 HR-Vs and Accords Due to Missing Seat Belt Connector

Honda has issued a recall potentially impacting more than 300,000 2023 and 2024 HR-V’s and Accords due to a potentially missing seat belt connector that could increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the seat belt pretensioner is missing a rivet that is supposed to properly restrain passengers in the event of a crash. The installation of the rivet was reportedly skipped during assembly, as noted in a November 21 recall report from the NHTSA.

Beginning January 8, recall letters will be sent to Honda owners, and dealers will inspect and fix the issue free of charge.

The NHTSA has stated that the affected seat belts do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for “Occupant Crash Protection,” “Seat Belt Assemblies,” and “Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages.”

Although no injuries have been reported, vehicle owners are advised to contact Honda at 1-888-234-2138 or the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or visit nhtsa.gov for more information on the recall.

This is not the first time Honda has issued a recall in recent months – earlier this month, the company recalled nearly 250,000 Odysseys, Pilots, Acuras, and Ridgelines over a potential bearing failure that could cause the engine to stall and the vehicle to crash. Over the summer, Honda also recalled over a million vehicles due to a rearview camera issue.
