According to GANVAM (the National Association of Motor Vehicle Dealers), the used car marketing sector is growing by 5.2% in our country, spurred by the economic crisis. Regarding the number of vehicles that are put on sale, the percentage increases by 2.2% compared to the same period of the previous year. These data highlight the importance of having a vehicle in good condition before making the purchase.
In the case of imported cars, during the first half of 2023, a historical record in sales was recorded, according to data published by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism.
The analysis carried out by Carfax detected that one in two vehicles presents an associated risk. Of these, one in four shows a serious risk of having suffered a previous accident. As for prices, it is interesting to know that cars less than a year old and more than ten years old are the ones that increase in cost the most.
Furthermore, 44.5% of the second-hand cars that were consulted through Carfax in Spain between January and October 2023 (a sample of more than 400,000 vehicles of the total number of those verified during the aforementioned period) present at least one associated risk, which can become a headache in the short and medium term if the purchase is made.
The first five risks most detected in used cars are, in this order, leasing/renting (17%), importation (12%), rental vehicle (11%), damage or accidents (10%), and inconsistency or mileage manipulation (3%).
Far from being reduced, alerts in the used car fleet are growing. According to the vehicle history provider, a 3% increase in the risks of used cars was detected. Of these, one in ten vehicles presents at least one serious risk: previous damage or accidents, manipulation of the mileage, cars that have been taxis in the past, active theft complaints, cases of total accident or unfavorable technical inspection. Only one in six vehicles showed only a low risk (for example, being an imported car).
On the other hand, it is surprising that vehicles imported from premium brands are 56% more likely to have previous damage than cars imported from general brands. These are data that highlight the importance of knowing the true condition of a car before purchasing it.
