In the midst of the war between Israel and Hamas, the billionaire and big boss of the social network X, Elon Musk, is going to Jerusalem this Monday. He is due to speak with Israeli President Isaac Herzog about the online fight against anti-Semitism.

During this interview, scheduled for the afternoon, President Herzog will be accompanied by “representatives of families of hostages held by Hamas”. He “will emphasize the need to act to combat growing anti-Semitism online,” his services said.

Elon Musk’s visit to Jerusalem comes on the last day of the renewable truce between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas which has allowed in recent days the release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip and Palestinian prisoners imprisoned in Israel . The Israeli army estimated at 240 the total number of hostages taken to Gaza on October 7 during the bloody attack carried out by Hamas on Israeli territory. According to Israeli authorities, 1,200 people, the vast majority civilians, were killed in this attack. In retaliation, Israel promised to “eliminate” Hamas, which seized power in the Gaza Strip in 2007 and is classified as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union and Israel.

A conspiracy theory among white nationalists

Jewish organizations have reported an increase in anti-Semitic acts in different countries since the start of this war. The White House, the seat of the American presidency, accused Elon Musk last week of having made a “abject promotion of anti-Semitic and racist hatred” in one of his publications on X, formerly Twitter. The billionaire responded to the owner of an account, who wrote that Jewish people encouraged “hatred against white people,” with this message: “You told the exact truth.” For the White House, this publication merely repeats a popular conspiracy theory among white nationalists, according to which Jews have a secret plan to encourage illegal immigration to Western countries in order to undermine the white majority there.

In September, before the war between Israel and Hamas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Elon Musk in San Francisco (California, United States) and spoke live on the platform of the man who is also the boss of giants Tesla and SpaceX. “I hope that you will find the ability to put an end to anti-Semitism (on X) or to reduce it as much as possible”, within the limits of freedom of expression, said the head of government to the president of x.

The Israeli press reported on Sunday evening a possible meeting between Musk and Netanyahu, which, however, was not confirmed by the Prime Minister’s office.
