The “death” group definitely keeps all its promises. All scenarios are still possible for Paris Saint-Germain, who are preparing to host Newcastle this Tuesday, as part of the 5th day of the Champions League group stage. Defeated in the first leg 4 goals to 1, the Parisians suffered a humiliation at St James Park. Shipwreck which had put them in a bad position in this group F, also made up of Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.

The ranking has evolved significantly in four days, the Germans are first with 7 points, a short distance behind PSG, 2nd with 6 points. Milan is currently 3rd with 5 points, ahead of the Newcastle Magpies, dead last with 4 points. Qualification is still imaginable for each of the four teams.

A victory to secure the Europa League

The Parisians could qualify for the C1 round of 16 on Tuesday on two conditions: winning against Newcastle and seeing AC Milan held to a draw against Dortmund at San Siro.

The Parisians and the Germans would therefore play a final for first place, on December 13 at Signal Iduna Park. In the event of a victory against Dortmund, Paris will be first in the group.

Paris would secure at least a place in the Europa League in the event of a victory against Newcastle. A defeat or draw against the Magpies would, however, jeopardize the Parisians’ qualification for the round of 16 of C1 and bring them closer to C3. Worse still, PSG could be eliminated from all European competition if they lose their next two Champions League matches.
