Carolina Panthers fire head coach Frank Reich after dismal 1-10 start to the season

The Carolina Panthers have made a major coaching change, firing head coach Frank Reich on Monday following the team’s NFL-worst 1-10 record.

Owner David Tepper announced the decision in a statement, thanking Reich for his dedication and service while wishing him well in his future endeavors.

Under Reich’s leadership, the Panthers have struggled to find success on the field, with an 0-6 record on the road and an overall record that guarantees a sixth straight losing season since Tepper purchased the team in 2018.

The decision to part ways with Reich comes after the Panthers’ offense, which he was responsible for calling plays, struggled to put up points, with quarterback Bryce Young, the No. 1 pick of the 2023 draft, ranking last in the NFL in Total QBR.

In light of this, special teams coach Chris Tabor has been appointed as the team’s interim head coach, while offensive coordinator Thomas Brown will assume playcalling duties with assistance from senior assistant Jim Caldwell.

Reich, who was fired by the Indianapolis Colts as head coach in November 2022, was hired by the Panthers in January to succeed Matt Rhule. Reich has a career record of 41-43-1 and had previously gone to four Super Bowls as a player with the Buffalo Bills and won a Super Bowl as the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017.

This sudden change in coaching staff positions the Panthers for a fresh start as they look to turn their season around and strive for success moving forward.
