The governor of Epirus, Alekos Kahrimanis, sees breach of commitments and discontinuity of the state behind the latest statements of the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Nikos Tahiaou, about the fact that there are no trees left for other road infrastructures in Epirus, beyond the Ioannina – Kakavia axis.

However, he states that he is willing to insist both on the connection of Preveza with the Ionian Sea and on the coastal road, which will connect Preveza with Igoumenitsa and then with Albania, implying that he has personal guarantees at the highest government level. which, however, remains to be proven, as there are no references to the two projects from the mouth of the prime minister during his frequent visits to the region.
Whether, however, N. Tahiaos was expressing personal opinions or whether these projects are not really in the planning of the Ministry of Infrastructure is expected to be seen very soon, as information wants the deputy minister to come to Ioannina next week and logically he will be in front of the Al. Kahrimani.
Speaking at the consultation day for the new Integrated Spatial Investment, “Route to the Ancient Theatres, Nature and Culture in Epirus”, Alekos Kahrimanis characterized as “unsalty” what was heard from the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure in a television show, saying that the governments have Continuity. “As we did in Ioannina – Kakavia, we also took some initiatives for the road axes in Preveza with consultation. And in this context we also started the hubs in Lygia, Vrachos, Fraxila and Valanidorrachis. Suddenly we saw that the agreements, which had been made with the previous leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure, do not exist. We consider this to be unsalted. Nor do I accept that the state has no continuity”, he emphasized in his statements afterwards, answering a related question that the agreements were not verbal, but reflected in documents of the Region of Epirus and answers of the Ministry. “What we’ve heard these days causes us discomfort”, he added and, to a new question about how the salty foods will taste, he answered “continentally”, clarifying that “we are not backing down”.
Finally, he argued that there is no funding gap for the Ioannina-Kakavia project, as it is a regular practice to include it in national resources and to transfer it to a co-financed European program as soon as the relevant invitation is opened, which will be done in this particular case.

LASY Epirus: “The left trees have dried up”

The People’s Rally of Epirus characterizes the statements of the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Nikos Tahiaou regarding the non-financing of the main road axes of the P.E. as a challenge. Prevezas, while he interprets “the alleged outbursts of the governor of Epirus” as a mockery aimed at alleviating the ever-increasing popular discontent.
“In recent years, the government and the Region, instead of building safe roads, all they create are roundabouts, which trucks cannot pass through. Road safety begins and ends at the roundabouts, leaving out the entire length of the coastal road, which hides death traps every few meters. Preveza remains the only prefecture of Epirus, which is not connected to either of the two major road axes. It continues to receive thousands of tourists every summer without even having a hospital, but these are not sufficient reasons to fund road axes. They know very well what they are doing: At the inauguration of his pre-election center in Preveza just two months ago, in September, Mr. Kahrimanis as candidate for regional governor assured that the Region of Epirus will finance the studies and together with the Ministry of Infrastructure will co-finance the completion of these projects. Now suddenly the “money trees” have dried up and are not making the money, which anyway they have taken from the pockets of the people of Preveza through taxation”, emphasizes the People’s Coalition of Epirus, adding that it is not the first time that the residents of P .E. Preveza, as well as in 2019 the SYRIZA government assured that it was ready to tender the project connecting Preveza to the Ionio road, only to prove after the elections that they did not even have the studies ready.
