Schalke 04 is deep in crisis. The Bundesliga relegated team is also fighting to stay in the second division. Now those responsible and players are writing a remarkable fan letter. We are talking about “anger, shame and negative developments”.

After FC Schalke 04’s once again embarrassing performance, the board of directors, supervisory board and players of the second division soccer team apologized in a letter to the club members and promised improvement. During the bitter 3:5 defeat in Düsseldorf on Saturday, many Schalke fans left the stadium early and no longer supported the team.

“We know the seriousness of the situation. We are aware that the upcoming games are of fundamental importance,” said the special letter to members on Monday. For the next important game against bottom-placed VfL Osnabrück, the expectations of the team were clearly communicated: “Full concentration, total passion and three points for the Royal Blues.”

The supervisory board and board of directors were self-critical after 13 points and 16th place so far. “Mistakes were made in the composition of the squad, some ideas didn’t work out – we bear responsibility for that. As club management, we will do everything we can to correct any undesirable developments during the winter break. We will also act decisively when looking at possible squad changes.”

The professionals also promised the members in the further part of the letter that there would be improvement in the relegation battle. “We are ashamed of our performances in the last few months. It is our duty to repay the trust you have placed in us. After a game like we played in the first 45 minutes on Saturday evening, we all feel disappointment, emptiness, anger and shame because we know that Schalke 04 is not worthy.”

It is time to get up again, analyze, use all means possible to find solutions and support each other. “It’s about the claim and honor of each individual, and we won’t stop fighting for it,” said the Schalke players.
