The Tamil Nadu State Chess Association has embarked on an ambitious plan to hold 50 IM (Methodological Round) tournaments aimed at providing Indian chess players with the opportunity to achieve master’s degrees in the game. The first six IM competitions have already been completed, with the seventh currently taking place at a hotel in Coimbatore.

In a bid to further their ratings and skills, each IM competition will see five participants from Tamil Nadu and five international competitors battling it out in a series of intense matches. The ongoing seventh competition has attracted players from the USA, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Belarus. The tournament consists of nine rounds, with the top players vying for victory.

In a thrilling turn of events during the fourth round held recently, Indian player Sai Visvesh showcased his prowess by defeating the Belarusian player Evgeny, as well as the Belarusian player Alexey Pedorov and the Kyrgyz player Azilbek Abdijabar. As a result of his stellar performance, Sai Vishwesh has secured the top position with 3.5 points after the completion of four rounds. He is followed closely by Belarus player Alexey Pedorov in second place, with Indian player Adhireddy Arjun securing the third spot.

The tournament has not only offered an exciting platform for competitors to display their skills, but has also served as a significant opportunity for Indian players to make their mark in the international chess arena. With a promising start to the seventh IM competition, all eyes are on the talented players as they continue to battle it out in the rounds to come.
