The parade of the Three Wise Men, which is traditionally celebrated on the afternoon of January 5, will incorporate an Urbaser float to its route through the streets of Madrid in 2024. Thus, the company awarded the Urgent Cleaning Service (SELUR) of Madrid will not only be in charge of street cleaning after the event, but will also participate during it with the purpose of raise awareness about the importance of sustainability.
In this edition, the City Council wants to vindicate the innocence of children with the parade, as a symbol of unity and respect between generations. With a futuristic design, the Urbaser float will represent one of the company’s main objectives: the transformation of waste into resource. A robot located in the center of the float will reflect this process, a key factor in Urbaser’s commitment to sustainability.
On the afternoon of January 5, this float will convey to the little ones in the house the message that one of the best gifts is a sustainable future. It will do so with the use of recycled materials in the float cover, with low-energy lighting and by sharing sugar-free candies wrapped in compostable materials.
“The Three Kings parade in Madrid is the most impressive that any city can have. It has established itself, in its own right, as the reference event for Christmas in this city“, commented the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, during the presentation of the cultural and leisure program designed by the Madrid City Council for this Christmas, under the motto ‘Madrid, a city with a star’. Urbaser is the only environmental management company that sponsors the 2023-2024 Christmas campaign.
The float’s entourage will be made up of some workers and their families. “Employees are an essential part of Urbaser. We are more than 50,000 in 15 different countries. On such a special day we want your families to be able to enjoy the ride from within, because they are the pillar of our sustainability strategy and the transformation process in which we are immersed.“, acknowledges Fernando Abril-Martorell, CEO of Urbaser.
In 2022, the Madrid City Council and Urbaser signed the cleaning contract and awarded it to the Urgent Cleaning Service (SELUR) company of Madrid. Urbaser will be in charge of cleaning Madrid’s streets until 2030. The urgent cleaning after demonstrations, accidents or inclement weather is also accompanied by the cleaning of graffiti in the city.
