(Cheste – Valencia) Productive debut for Pedro Acosta in the GasGas Factory Team Tech3. The Spanish rider makes the jump to MotoGP next season and Now he has been able to get on the motorcycle with which he will compete in 2024. With a lot of work ahead of him, the Moto2 world champion finished in 18th position, just over a second behind Maverick Viñales at the close of the Valencia test.

At the end of the day, the Mazarrón rider pointed out that he enjoyed the bike at all times, but it cost him more than expected to get hold of the RC16: “Today I am very happy. It’s been all since morning. From the first photo at 9, until I fell at five. We have started without touching anything, not even buttons, to begin to have sensations with the MotoGP. When I started to go fast and touch buttons, I made mistakes and there were curves that I did with the bike completely down. “I thought the bike was very low, it wasn’t normal.”

The Spaniard has preferred to focus especially on adaptation to the bike and all the technology that exists around MotoGP, so he hopes that in the Sepang tests he can be in the leading positions: “We have taken solid steps, understanding how electronics worked over long distances, aerodynamics, electronics, brakes… I have a general idea to go fast and thus have a base so that everything comes more naturally to me.”

One of the main novelties that Pedro Acosta has encountered is the number of technicians around him, who have given him advice at all times to get on the bike as soon as possible: “I was surprised by the number of people I had around me. I come from a large Moto2 team that has five people per rider. Here when I got off the bike I had 20 or 30 people around me listening to what I was saying and 10 of those 20 only gave advice to make my life easier. The motorcycle runs a lot, there comes a moment when I have become ballistic. When she was going to unlock the device she was already braking.”

The MotoGP discipline has reached #31, who has commented that they have given him many facilities in the box to change the work program: “They have been very open all day. If I wanted to change something in the work plan I just had to say so, but in the end they are the ones who know. My technician has been in the KTM project since the first motorcycle was made, “He knows how to lead a pilot so that he understands how to work.”

Augusto Fernández’s teammate already knows what it’s like to crash in the premier class – he lost the front end of his GASGAS in turn 2 -, something he claims has allowed him to realize that he still does not have enough experience to save depending on what situations: “The fall was due to being stubborn and wanting to get in. There are many straights that stop being straight when you fight with the bike. When he did a wheelie I tried to save him and I stayed to the left, I thought that there were a lot of people doing corners and I thought that I had to do it too. Here it is no longer worth being a two-time champion. It has helped me to know what I should not do. It was stupid, just another drag, it’s good to experience it now that we’re starting. We already know that we don’t have to be stubborn.”

Finally, he acknowledged that no one was surprised by Marc Márquez’s great debut on the Ducati, and he stressed that he hopes he will fight for the title next year: “Marc’s thing was an open secret, it was not a mystery. We know who Marc Márquez is and what he has done in the last 10 years, he cannot hide it. I was happy to see him up there, he didn’t deserve all the bad things that are happening to him“, stated Acosta.
