The threat will ultimately not be carried out and the French’s departures on vacation will be preserved. SUD Rail has decided not to call a strike during the end-of-year holidays. The third union of the SNCF had brandished the threat on November 9, the day after the obligatory annual negotiations (NAO), judging the proposed increase in management salaries – of 4.6% on average – largely insufficient. “We have chosen not to be the organization that would weaken the construction of a powerful unitary movement,” explains Julien Troccaz, federal secretary.

The three other representative organizations (CGT Cheminots, Unsa Ferroviaire, CFDT Cheminots) had refused, this Tuesday during an inter-union meeting, the possibility of leading a social movement in December. Alone, SUD Rail preferred to back down, given the risk of weak mobilization with unpredictable effects.

The unions therefore prefer to postpone a possible mobilization until next year, probably in January. “The salary page is not closed,” warns Thierry Nier, general secretary of the CGT Cheminots. “The anger of railway workers will not go away on this central question of purchasing power,” adds Julien Troccaz. Management will have to reopen negotiations. »

All the unions were also received by management this Wednesday to address the issue of financial compensation granted to railway workers during the Olympic Games period. The latter are strongly encouraged to postpone their summer holidays to ensure sufficient transport availability for the duration of the competition.
