A 76-year-old woman is suspected to have been murdered in her home in central Stockholm, leaving relatives devastated by the loss. The police were alerted to an apartment on Kungsholmen in early October, where the woman was found dead with her front door unlocked.

According to a relative interviewed by Aftonbladet, the victim was loved and is deeply missed by her family. The suspected murderer, a man in his 20s, is believed to have suffered from a psychosis and was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.

It is reported that he entered the stairwell where the 76-year-old lived and randomly opened her door, stabbing her to death with a knife. The woman and the suspected perpetrator are said to have had no prior connection.

Furthermore, the victim’s bank card was taken and used after her death, leading to the arrest of the man. He is currently on probable grounds suspected of the murder, and the chamber prosecutor has requested an extension of the prosecution time by two weeks in order to complete the investigation.

“We have come quite far in the investigation. It is in a final phase now and must be completed before a final decision can be made on the issue of prosecution,” said Chamber prosecutor Lucas Eriksson.

The shocking incident has left the community in central Stockholm reeling, as the investigation into the tragic and senseless murder continues.
