Consumption alerts to the presence of listeria and salmonella in germinated alfalfa sprouts from Fresquia and Tugas

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan) alerted this Tuesday of the presence of Listeria monocytogenes y Salmonella spp in sprouted alfalfa sprouts from brands Fresquia y Task.

He warned this in two information alerts in which he recommended that people who have the products included in them at home “refrain” from consuming them.

Regarding the first, he specified that he was aware, through the Coordinated System for Rapid Information Exchange (Sciri), of an alert notification sent by the health authorities of Galicia regarding the presence of Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella in germinated sprouts of alfalfa and sprouted sprouts of alfalfa with arugula, both from the Fresquia brand.

Specifically, the affected products are the lot L0101-45-04-23 of organic sprouted alfalfa sprouts, sold in a 70 gram bag and with an expiration date of December 5 of this year, and lot L0110-45-01-23 of organic sprouted alfalfa sprouts with arugula, with the same presentation and expiration date December 2.

Likewise, the agency was also informed through Sciri of an alert notification sent by the health authorities of the same autonomous community regarding the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the lote L4111012S318D of Tugas brand sprouted alfalfa sprouts, presented in a 50-gram bag and with an expiration date of December 2 of this year.

This information has been transferred to the competent authorities of the autonomous communities through Sciri in order to verify the withdrawal of the affected products from marketing channels.

If you have consumed any of the products from the affected lots and present symptoms compatible with listeriosis or salmonellosis, which include vomiting, diarrhea or fever, the agency advised going to a health center.

In the case of being pregnanturged to consult the recommendations for consumption during pregnancy made by the agency itself regarding important food hygiene practices for pregnant women, as well as a list of foods that should be avoided during pregnancy because they are associated with certain biological hazards among those highlighted by Listeria monocytogenes.

Finally, he recalled the importance of “extreme” hygiene measures to avoid cross-contamination with other products.
