Thailand Extends Opening Hours of Nightclubs and Bars to Boost Tourism

In a bid to attract more tourists to the country, the Thai government has extended the opening hours of nightclubs and karaoke bars. The Thai cabinet approved the amendment of the law in this regard, allowing nightclubs and bars in Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Samui to operate until 4 in the morning.

This move comes after the recent announcement of a visa waiver for travelers from India, Russia, China, Kazakhstan, and Taiwan. The new reforms are at the behest of Thai Prime Minister Shretha Thavis and will come into effect from December 15.

The government has been taking significant steps to boost the tourism sector in the country since the new cabinet came to power. Thailand has received 24.5 million foreign tourists so far this year and is expected to cross 28 million by the end of the year. However, this is a significant decrease from the 39.9 million tourists that visited Thailand before the Covid-19 pandemic, with the biggest drop coming from the lack of Chinese tourists.

The measures to make Thailand’s nightlife more attractive and the visa waiver for travelers from key countries are part of the government’s efforts to revive the tourism industry in Thailand. These changes aim to position Thailand as a favorable destination for international travelers and to boost the country’s economy.
