Uganda Makes History by Qualifying for 2024 Twenty20 World Cup

Uganda has made history by becoming the last team to qualify for the 2024 Twenty20 World Cup, which is set to be held in West Indies and America. The team’s qualification marks the fifth time an African country will be participating in the Twenty20 World Cup.

Uganda’s journey to the World Cup included a second-place finish in the African qualifying round, after Namibia. Their qualification came at the expense of strong favorites Zimbabwe, who were eliminated from the tournament. Additionally, Kenya also failed to qualify, making Uganda the sole African representative in the 20-team tournament.

Uganda secured their spot as the 20th team in the tournament with a convincing nine-wicket win against Rwanda. After bowling out Rwanda for just 65 runs, Uganda easily chased down the target in 8.1 overs, securing their place in the World Cup.

During the qualifiers, Uganda won five out of six matches, including a victory over Zimbabwe. Despite defeating Kenya in their last match, Zimbabwe’s loss to Uganda in the initial stages of the qualifiers proved to be a setback for their World Cup ambitions.

The 2024 Twenty20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 4 to 30 next year, and Uganda will be looking to make an impact on the global stage.

Meanwhile, a jubilant video capturing the Ugandan players and support staff celebrating their World Cup qualification has gone viral on social media, showcasing the excitement and pride of the team and their supporters.
