High Court Stays Cancellation of All India Permit for Robin Bus

The High Court in Kochi has put a hold on the cancellation process of the All India Permit for the Robin Bus, issuing an interim order to stay proceedings until December 18. The court made it clear that it will not comment on the government’s argument that the permit had expired. Furthermore, the court has ordered that if the bus is impounded, it should be released after a fine is imposed.

This development comes after the State Transport Authority took the decision yesterday to cancel the All India Tourist Permit (AITP) for the Robin Bus following a report by the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) which highlighted repeated violations of permit regulations. It was uncovered during questioning by the MVD squad that the bus was being used for travel to different destinations for various purposes, contrary to the terms of the AITP permit.

According to the order from State Transport Authority Secretary K. Manoj Kumar, the permit was canceled under Rule 11 of AITP as all the rules applicable to contract carriages under the permit were found to be applicable to the Robin Bus.

However, the cancellation of the permit comes at a time when a case filed by K. Kishore, a resident of Basutama, Kozhikode, is set to be heard in the High Court next week, further complicating the matter.

The temporary halt to the cancellation process by the High Court has provided some breathing room for the Robin Bus, and the final decision on the fate of its All India Permit remains up in the air until the next hearing.
