Are rationalism and the influence of secularism inhibiting the action of the Holy Spirit today? For Jackie Hill Perry, an ex-gay woman who now uses her testimony to reach lives for Jesus, this possibility is real and may be affecting the current generation’s understanding of the spiritual warfare against the Church.
In a ministry given earlier this year, Perry discussed the topic of witchcraft as something that has been sneakily becoming popular even in Christian circles. According to the young woman, Satan “wants us to consider alternative sources of power for joy, peace and a healthy mind”.
GospelMais has published recent publications pointing out how elements linked to the occult can be adopted through the New Age movement, where witchcraft is more widespread in a modernized and supposedly harmless version known as Wicca.
Perry believes that the use of social media has made it easier for young people to access this type of content. “So, you go on TikTok and see things like a psychic saying she could tell your future,” she explains.
“If God is the one who was and the one who is to come, that means He is already in the future now. So you don’t need mediums, you need the Lord. Don’t play with the devil”, he emphasizes.
The supernatural is real
For the ex-gay, the supernatural world is a reality that needs to be known, but only through the Word of God, as the Bible teaches. An important aspect in this aspect is to treat the subject with propriety, and not with skepticism.
“We have to talk about the fact that people believe there is power and other dimensions beyond Jesus,” she says. “Christ said you cannot access God unless you do so in spirit, by the power of the Spirit, and in truth, according to the Word of God.”
Discerning between psychological, emotional and spiritual facts is a necessity, but Perry believes that the reality of spiritual warfare cannot be overlooked through excessive rationalism. “We cannot be so rational as to think that everything is a matter of logic and not a spiritual reality at play”, he concludes, second the Christian Post.
