“It won’t be the only strike, we will plan others and other demonstrations.” Doctors and nurses confirm their abstention from work for December 5 but also announce, through the voice of Piero di Silverio of Anaao, the hospital workers’ union, a battle that it will go ahead in the future. Too much anger and disappointment caused the move, already considered penalizing with regards to the resources allocated for healthcare and which became explosive when the plan for cutting healthcare workers’ pensions was illustrated. “They promise a maxi-amendment on pensions for 20 days but we still don’t see anything,” says Di Silverio.
The program
The focus of the demonstrations on December 5th (starting from 11.30) will be Piazza Santi Apostoli in Rome, where a sit-in protest will be held. In the square, doctors, nurses, midwives and other healthcare professions. In addition to Anaao, Cimo and Nursing up are the organizers. “Public health is not sold off, it is defended. After yet another economic maneuver, which ignores the needs of health professionals, calls into question their acquired rights, and forgets the needs of public health, the time has come to strike – declare Di Silverio, Guido Quici, president Cimo – Fesmed, and Antonio De Palma, president of Nursing up. In the square we will loudly express all our anger and disappointment.”
